Conversate

LEARN WHO THESE PEOPLE ARE BELOW.

THESE ARE PEOPLE LIKE YOU READING THIS. PEOPLE THAT ARE ACTING, NOT TO MAKE THEMSELVES MONEY, BUT FOR THE GREATER GOOD OF THEIR PEERS. IF WE ALL STARTED DOING THIS A LITTLE BIT MORE OFTEN, THE WORLD WILL CHANGE ALONGSIDE OF US.

SEARCH THEIR NAMES. SHARE THEIR STORY.

SUPPORT THE PEOPLE THAT ADD THE VALUE YOU WANT TO SEE.

This whole time I thought changing the world was something you did. An act you performed, something you fought for, I don’t know if that’s true anymore, or if changing the world was just about being here. By showing up, no matter how many times we get told we don’t belong. By staying true even when we’re shamed into being false. By believing in ourselves, even when we are told we’re too different. And if we all held onto that. If we refused to budge and fall in line. If we stood our ground for long enough, just maybe, the world can’t help but change around us.

Where US-281 and I-35 Meet: Ash Pavilion. The City of Kyle hosts the Battle of Texas Roller Hockey

All roads driven, or maybe just two highways actually, led the Roller Hockey Community of Texas to the City of Kyle this weekend, which as most Texans know is the Pie Capitol of Texas, the city with not just one but TWO water towers!! However, the incoming hockey-playing Texans were not here for the Pie, and besides for Penn, not here to sight see water towers, but rather to visit the newly constructed Ash Pavilion and compete in the first edition of the Kyle Cup.

This event was a two-day roller-hockey tournament that included teams and players ranging from Dallas to McAllen and all stops in between from Austin to San Antonio. As the cars unloaded early Saturday on the brisk morning, over 60 players would end up competing in the action on the rink of Ash Pavilion as each team would get to play each other once in a two-period, 30 minute long bout.

To host an event of this size the locals that run the Kyle Hockey program, Crane & Crew, wrangled together referees, statisticians, score keepers, fans, food, volunteers and more to facilitate the days activities on and off the rink for the surge of new Texas visitors stopping by exit 213. The first official Kyle Cup, or like we’ve been calling it – “The Battle of US-281 & I-35”, has been successfully completed and things are looking promising for the future of roller hockey in Texas as the Kyle Hockey league brings us all together in a central location.

For more about the action of the tournament you can watch the Big Green Projects recap here

ATHLETICALLY APPEALING DESIGNS

“The team at the Big Green Project is happy to announce that we will be expanding on the Athletically Appealing or AA Sponsorship project into this upcoming year. We had a very successful 2021 with the addition of athlete Timmy Jeed and the Busch Light Boys organization formerly known as the Tampa Thunder. Merchandise sales hit an all time high and social media meme interaction started to return to pre-covid levels. It’s important to notes that not only did the Big Green Project have a great year selling more merchandise than ever but Teed, after signing his AA Sponsorship went on to sweep the Roller Nationals in the 24under division and then accepted a professional spot on Tres Cantos in Liga Elite. We don’t want to say they are directly related but we are math people and those appear to be directly related”

Bringing Lord Stanley Back to the Bay and the Ride it has Been

The Long Road Back video story is available for purchase in NFT form.

Watch the video story here.

The Long Road Back

The story starts in 2004, about a decade after the NHL brought a professional team to Tampa Bay, when on June 7th the Bolts captured the Stanley Cup in game seven over the Calgary Flames. The first time a Florida team had ever earned the title of league champs up until recently. The rest of the 2000’s were filled with battles against the Devils and Canes eventually causing the Lightning to slide into single digit pick territory.

The season before “Captain” arrived saw a record be set by the boys playing in Tampa, a NHL-Worst 31 win season (Remember this for later). Way before the lottery system existed, Tampa was awarded the first pick for being last place in which we saw Canadian super star Steven Stamkos get selected over Drew Doughty (2-Time Cup Winner) and Zach Bogosian (Sound familiar? 1-Time Cup Winner).

The year after not much changed for the Lightning and they skated themselves into the 2nd overall pick for the 2009 NHL Draft. The tall, Swedish born defenseman drawing comparisons to the Chris Pronger and ranked as the top international pick, Victor Hedman, was selected by Tampa Bay the pick after John Tavares (As many Cups as you, zero).

The foundation has now been built with the 1-2 pick in back to back years giving the Bolts a young Canadian Super-star paired with the large, attacking defensemen. The years to come for the Bolts would prove to be a roller coaster ride of emotions as the head office worked to build back what existed in2004 and make improvements on lessons learned.

bolts lose to CHI

“The Montreal series last year stung,” Cooper said. “But that pales in comparison to what this feels like. This is going to leave a scar, no doubt.”

“The pilot light’s been lit to get back here,” Cooper said. “I’ll be looking forward to September.”

Joe Smith, Tampa Bay Times

Calling it a collapse would be an understatement. Calling it an embarrassment is perhaps more fitting. Regardless of how you look at it, though, the Lightning — once discussed as potentially becoming one of the greatest NHL teams ever — is out of the playoffs after just four games.

Josh Fiallo, Tampa Bay Times

After the heartache and humiliation from being swept by the Blue Jackets, the Lightning won the Stanley Cup in remarkably convincing fashion. You won’t see many teams win it all without facing elimination, but the Lightning did just that during this run.

James O’Brien, NHL on NBC Sports

“We’ve been knocking at the door for so many years,” coach Jon Cooper said. “And now to be able to do it, back to back, and it kind of cements this group as … well, they’re special.”

Eduardo Encina, Tampa Bay Times

The Lightning’s legacy will be one of redemption and resilience. Their season started with them playing in arenas so desolate they could hear their skate blades on ice. They endured strict coronavirus protocols, were isolated in their hotels on the road and played every game with a huge bull’s-eye on their backs.

Eduardo Encina, Tampa Bay Times

A team built on skill reinvented itself with grit. When it bought in on being a better defensive team, it became championship caliber. And in the playoffs, games are decided by how many goals a team prevents, not how many it can score.

Tampa Bay Times

The Bolts won their third Stanley Cup on July 7th, 2021 in which they captured back-to-back titles putting themselves into a selective club of only 7 other NHL teams, the back to back title club.

It has been 10,500 days since the Bolts played their first game and over 6,000 days since they won their first Stanley Cup.

4,800 days ago the Lightning set a NHL Record with a league low in wins just three years after winning a Stanley Cup and got the first pick in the draft.

2,200 days ago we all sat in front of our televisions or at a bar watching our hearts break as Chicago won the series 4-2 and hoisted the cup at their home rink in front of our Bolts

800 days ago the Lightning tied a NHL Record with a league high in wins and then proceeded to get swept in the first round.

282 days ago the Lightning won the Stanley Cup in an empty stadium during the middle of a national pandemic.

And now back to today, the Bolts are back-to-back champs. Stamkos and Hedman have fulfilled career long promises and cemented their legacy in Tampa to sit alongside 26 and 4. Kucherov, who has gone from a 7th round pick to a 1st line All-NHL player posting postseason and regular season point records, now has himself two Stanley Cups to build his case around NHL Greats. Coach Cooper, who was facing a city filled with doubt in 2019 now sits as the King of the Bay in 2021. The head office gets to take a lot of credit and “I told you sos”, with years of trades and transactions to build a roster, a team, a family that has perfected the game of hockey in these post covid years.

TOORS FIVE

COMING JUNE 30TH TO THEATERS EVERY GOD DAMN WHERE, ITS TOORS NATIONALS PRO SERIES!!!

To catch yourself up, watch last years posts on RollerDadNews‘ instagram page:

Anchorman // Anchorman 2 // Dodgeball

Fast & Furious Movie Posters

This will be the FIFTH YEAR in FLORIDA consecutively for Torhs Hockey, which is pretty common for kids who go to college in Florida so get ready for TORHS FIVE.

It seems like just yesterday we were all watching “The FAST and the TAKE IT BACK. STRETCH THE RINK”, the first year in Tampa, which saw Black Ice Pro capture their second Torhs Pro championship in the summer of 2017.

After the huge success down in Tampa, TOORS quickly announced that Nationals would be coming back to Florida in 2018 which would bring us 2 HOT 4 ICE NATIONALS. The field of competitors featured a very young Roadrunner team, George Brown’s Excitement, the CJ Yoder led Mudcats and the boys from Black Ice. 2018 Nattys ended with Black Ice completing the 3-peat.

BLB Studios TOORS1-4
BLB Studio Headquarters TOORS Nationals Posters 1 through 4

News came out that a contract was in the works which would bring TOORS Nationals to Tampa for another THREE years! The excitement was REAL and the 2019 TOORS pro series saw a ramp up in talent compared to the 2018 poverty pro division. California Teams decided to make the trip to the east coast giving us The FAST and the REALLY REALLY FAST: California Drift. Cali came and Cali conquered with Travis Noe putting Carshield thru the Skills & Drills HANDS lesson to score the GWG.

Last year saw Anchorman introduce the most dangerous and lethal pro field TOORS has ever seen. During the craziness of the pandemic, Nationals 2020 was a refreshing breath of air on the path back to normal life as we all got to attend TORHS & NATIONALS. After tough losses and other teams stacking rosters, CARSHIELD Hockey decided not to F around this time. JP Bielstien got on his celly and called in the Mission Sniper roster and ooooo boy did that help. Carshield took the boys from Cali and showed them a little Midwest loving.

Get ready for TORHS FIVE. Starting on June 30th you can check out the Team List, Scores and Schedule HERE. The usual culprits have made their return to Florida for the tourney and our joined this year by several newcomers to the East Coast Toors Nationals. You can catch BLB Studios in the stands all week most likely playing the dollar game. Other than that, sit back, relax, grab a cold busch light and get ready for the kickoff of Summer Nattys.

BLB Studio Headquarters during the production of TOORS FIVE. Huge shoutout to Vinny D on the signed poster. RIP Paul Walker.

What a time it has been here in Wesley Chapel, Florida. The Advent Health CenterIce (If thats still the name) and the TOPSHELF Sports Lounge & Bar have been nothing but amazing throughout the years in hosting the TOORS Nationals event. Bring home the action today by clicking the button below.

SAN ANTONIO Roller Hockey League Fundraiser

Hockey is alive and well in the great state of Texas. Help the San Antonio roller hockey community raise money for their league operations and outdoor rink maintenance by purchasing one of our Texas Hockey hats, shirts or athletic t-shirt jerseys. The league operates out of Fairchild Park which is located on the East Side of the city. The outdoor court is shared between the Bike Polo Leagues, Box Lacrosse and Hockey leagues. We are raising money to start building our league up from the ground to eventually become a recognized business or non profit. We will be using the funds received to repaint the lines on the rink, buy new goals, supply the league with jerseys, fix the broken boards and more!!! Please considering donating by purchasing a shirt or hat! Thank you for your support, find us on facebook @ San Antonio Roller Hockey or at www.SARHL.com to learn more about the league and Texas hockey.
